The noble art of programming
This website is dedicated to the art of programming. A noble art, in my opinion. The contributors to this site mainly do their coding in BASIC, especially Power Basic. How it all began a few years ago, can be read here.
How I became involved? If you really want to know that (which I can't believe, by the way) then simply click on my photograph above to open a brief "About me"-page.
Basic Guru proudly presents: Gregorian Day Numbers
Manipulating calendar dates is not a troubling matter, provided you use an intelligent day numbering algorithm. Julian Day Numbers? Not bad, but overloaded with 6000(!) years of redundancy. Now there is a Gregorian Day Number algorithm, exactly fitting in the Gregorian Calendar.
Thanksgiving Day calculator
In the United States of America Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. The Canadians have their Thanksgiving festivities on the second Monday in October. You like those public holidays to be calculated in your calendrical software? Then don't miss this article.
Your weeks should be numbered
Week numbers are easy to implement in your calendarlike applications. The rules were set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Here you can read how to 'translate' those rules into PBWin source code.
